Decree-Law no. 85-B/2025 was published on 30 June, extending the validity of residence permits that expired between 22 February 2020 and 30 June 2025 until 15 October 2025.
The decree also defines the regime governing the validity of these documents after 15 October 2025. Thus, after this date, documents relating to residence permits will continue to be accepted provided that the holder presents proof of payment of the application for their renewal, issued by Agência para a Integração, Migrações e Asilo, IP. (AIMA). The document proving payment of the application for renewal of the residence permit will be valid for 180 days from the date of issue.
